Threshold Effects

In a conversation a few days ago with someone not familiar with the AGW meltdown, the issue of melting glaciers came up. The melting glaciers must be evidence of drastic change in the climate!

Actually, no, it’s not. If the climate surrounding the glaciers warmed from 0 degrees F, to 31 degrees F, no visible change would be seen in glacier melt despite a 31 degree change.

But when changing from 31 to 33 degrees F, (2 degree change) or even from 31.9 degrees F to 32.1 degrees F (0.2 degree change), a vast change would be seen. This is obviously because the temperature has crossed the melt threshold.

The same goes for arctic ice and Antarctic ice. When the melt threshold is crossed, a major physical change is seen based on a small change in temperature.

I doubt that true believers – now referred to as AGW Fraud Deniers – will be influenced by this fact (it is a fact). And you can actually test the Melt Threshold Hypothesis/Theory in your own kitchen, as opposed to AGW temperature modifications.
