I think you put words in Obama's mouth, and I don't want to get into a position where I'm defending Obama.
The threat is that BP will not have sole oversight over the leak. BP seems to be to be protecting their investment, not preventing the destruction of the gulf coast. I think Obama is responding to the sentiment expressed by those who elected him, while trying to stay within the boundaries of not over-stepping the division between his office and the private sector.
I would like to see more action, but I think part of the problem is that we don't even know what action should be taken.
I wouldn't want to be Obama right now. He's got Americans on his case who believe he's not doing enough. He's got the British on his case who feel that his threats of action and criticism of BP is jeopardizing the pensions of people linked to BP.
Whatever he decides, it's going to piss someone off.
