James Lee, radical environmentalist, entered the Discovery Channel, took hostages and was apparently threatening to kill them when he was shot dead by police. A body bomb went off simultaneously. Claiming to have been inspired by Al Gore, Lee wanted Discovery to slant more toward his own eco-views. Besides an on-line manifesto, Lee reportedly said, (no joke):
"Nothing is more important than saving ... the Lions, Tigers, Giraffes, Elephants, Froggies, Turtles, Apes, Raccoons, Beetles, Ants, Sharks, Bears, and, of course, the Squirrels. The humans? The planet does not need humans."
