Off topic, but I just wanted to share a poem I wrote with you and your readers. It's not very good, but I was inspired by the way atheism is losing its grip among the intelligentsia so I decided to write it. Not sure if you are much of a poetry reader but I hope you enjoy :)

Geez, Stan. So much cognitive dissonance there, I will have to go through all of them one by one and get back to you. Ay caramba!

And to think, there were "stupid" people who actually believed that, if gay marriage was approved, it would lead to other marital aberrations. After all, if each and every person defines marriage to be whatever floats that particular boat down the sewage-filled river, then who is to say that it is morally wrong or even totally absurd to marry a Ferris wheel or your favorite pillow or a tree or a bridge???? (I have to admit: I certainly never thought about marrying an inanimate object. Okay, confession time: I did think a couple of times about one of those wonderful Stepford wives, but decided that I would probably waste all my time re-writing the programs so that I'd never hear "Are you done YET?".)

As a former government employee, I love the implications underlying cheating students preferring to work in government. Maybe that's why there are so many political science majors these days... It certainly explains why we need so many lawyers working in government.

Another argument used against interracial marriage was the slippery slope. Defenders of traditional marriage back then worried that allowing interracial marriage would lead to, as one court put it, “the father living with his daughter, the son with the mother,” and the “Turk or Mohammedan, with his numerous wives, [] establish[ing] his harem at the doors of the capitol . . . .” When the California Supreme Court struck down that state’s ban on interracial marriage, it had to defend its decision against the charge that allowing interracial marriage would lead to polygamy.

Government should have stayed out of marriage. Today marriage is a ridiculed institution, and a great many people no longer even bother with it. So a house can contain any number of people in any or all types of relationships, most of which are temporary and which generate ever more damaged children. The term "family" includes everything and therefore means nothing since it discriminates against nothing.

I'm amazed at how much vilification I see being directed at atheism on this web site.

Why do atheists bother you so much? Is it because our profound freedom scares you?

Fidem,
It is precisely the perceived freedom from the absolutes of moral principles and disciplined logical thought which makes Atheists (a)irrational and (b)dangerous.

There is no possible way around it for Atheists.

"Freethought" is merely untethered, rationalized, undisciplined, non-deductive pursuit of ideological proclivities. This in no manner resembles Aristotelian rational thought.

Atheist morals are self-anointed, self-fabricated, relativist and volatile, and are usually merely consequentialist tactics in pursuit of maintaining the self-image of personal moral supremacy.

Taken together, these unavoidable characteristics lead to the personal self-assessment of superiority and eliteness, and hence, arrogance.

Being armed with self-endowed superior morality, intellect and eliteness leads inexorably toward messiahism and Leftist totalitarianism.

This is obvious to non-Athiests, who generally categorize Atheists equal or below pedophiles and sex abusers.

There is good reason for this: it is empirically demonstrably the case.

Fidem Tubare,
Here are some of your (many) self-quotes, taken from your site. These are specific pointers to reasons why Atheists are not trusted or respected:

1. ”Skepticism is one of the greatest advantages gained from free thinking.”

Skepticism is the opposite of seeking knowledge: it is the destruction of existing knowledge by asserting degrees of pyrrhonism in attempts to destroy knowledge. There is no skeptical technique for obtaining knowledge, only for its destruction. Knowledge is obtained by using Aristotelian deduction and Reductio Ad Absurdum, testing to the standards of the First Principles. Knowledge must be accepted by humility of mind before disciplined rational processes, validly performed. Free Thought merely abandons discipline in favor of rationalizing personal proclivities, which are then declared “truth”. In other words, free thought produces only personal ideology, delared true, but not actual truth.

2. ”Occam's Razor is the ritual blade of skeptics.”

Ockham’s Razor is not a Law of the universe; it is a rule-of-thumb principle which is revocable when it is wrong, which it frequently is. Einstein disproved it when he published his paper on the existence of atoms being evidenced by brownian motion. He disproved the theory that the razor showed that atoms were too complex to be rationally allowed. Einstein gloated, “things should be as simple as possible, and no simpler!” The razor is not a logical tool, it is merely a suggestion for help in deciding between unprovable postulates. And again it is frequently wrong.

3. ”As long as congregations of people worship deities, there will be battlefields. A life of skepticism is the acid test of rationality and peace.”

The Atheist massacres of the 20th century demonstrate that this statement is more than just false; it is egregiously and purposefully false. The Communist regimes were specifically Marxist-Atheist; they were Darwinist; they were Nietzschean; they were by far the bloodiest regimes in history, with documented massacres of roughly 150,000,000 people, just for the Chinese and Russians alone, not counting the other Communist massacres during that century.

If Atheism is “the acid test of rationality and peace”, then so is Stalinism and Maoism. Failure to recognize and admit this is one of the many failures of "Free Thought".
