The bottom line for sustainability is that all life must live on a daily dose of sunlight and no more. All of the net zero energy sources require solar input, whether it's wind power, wave/tide power, dam power, or plain old solar power. All other sources are entropic and not net zero, including nuclear.
Even the net zero sources require entropic manufacturing in order to create their infrastructure.
If net zero energy sources are the actual objective of sustainability, two things are doubtful: First that they can be created and maintained anentropically, second that they can produce enough daily energy to satisfy the daily requirements of earth's living inhabitants.
However, some of Earth's inhabitants are creative enough to actually bring sufficient energy to Earth, one would think (and hope). Until then, continued entropic energy use is necessary.
