Why relativism is shameless

For the relativist, personal integrity does not exist in the classical form. In the classic form of integrity, a person does what he says, keeps his promises, is predictable, honest and non-deceitful. His word is his currency.

But for the relativist, every flip-flop results in a position which he considers just as valid as the last; he defends it as truth. Moreover, he really doesn’t see that it is not truth; this is what makes the relativist dangerous: he is unconsciously unpredictable, and without classical integrity.

Case in point: Obama has been hammering into the nation the idea that a horrendous depression is imminent. The nation predictably puckered up. Then, without notice or reason he started saying that the economy is robust - at the same time that he started up his money raising machine again. Now a cynic might connect these two events, thinking "how much money could he raise in a robust economy vs. a depression?". When it comes to relativists and specifically Obama, I’m that cynic.

Another case in point: On Ash Wednesday, Biden wore his ashes on his forehead all day long, worming into every possible photo-op. But he still supports abortion, and now has been caught on the dreaded open mike, dropping the F-Bomb. But this is not hypocrisy, it is just a dedicated relativist, doing what relativists do.

Relativists have no shame, because whatever they do, in their own minds they are Right. There is no absolute baseline or benchmark by which to judge them, so they just cannot be wrong, ever. Hence there is no reason for shame. One might have to perform a perfunctory apology to the masses who might perceive it differently, but that is different from shame, it is pragmatism.

For relativism, there is no shame.
