Shortening the barrel of an AR15 and publishing the video is not a bright move. But the attack on the gun is certainly Virtue Signalling at its... inane-est.

Gun Free Zones. That's the hook.

When Trump sent DACA to Congress, he followed up with his four point proposal which allowed a path to citizenship for Dreamers, IF the other border leaks were sealed. For DACA, that is Congressional death; they cannot seal the borders and still be Democrats. So DACA is stalled, perhaps forever or at least for the rest of Trump's terms. Meantime, the courts will have to continue to stay Trump's reversal of Obama's illegal order which suspended a standing law. So a Supreme Court decision might well be in the offing, in which case, DACA dies.

Trump didn't kill DACA. He set it up with a hook, a condition which Democrats can't abide. So they can't approve DACA without taking the hook, and actually sealing the borders.

I wondered what the gun control hook might be, when Trump seemed to enthuse about everything the Donks proposed in the highly visible, televised White House meeting on guns. Today, it became clear: the hook will be the elimination of the Gun Free Zones, zones which the Donks love, and arming teachers and school staff. Donks absolutely cannot abide arming teachers and staff.

So the Donks will propose the elimination of virtually all weapons except revolvers and single-shot rifles. And the Donald will require the elimination of Free Fire Zones. And the whole subject will go away.

I think.

Let's watch this while we join the NRA, or rejoin, as is my case.

On his first day full in office, Donald Trump’s new Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke literally mounted his horse and rode roughshod over former President Barack Obama’s final spiteful attack on American gun owners.

On his first full day in office, Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke issued an order Thursday reversing a last-minute action by the Obama administration to ban lead ammunition and fish tackle used on national wildlife refuges.

Gun-rights supporters condemned the earlier order — issued a day before Obama left office Jan. 20 — as nakedly political. The order was intended to protect birds from lead poisoning, the Obama administration said.

Zinke, a former Montana congressman and avid hunter, said the new order would increase hunting, fishing and recreation opportunities on lands managed by Fish and Wildlife Service.

Rep. Rob Bishop, R-Utah, chairman of the House Natural Resources Committee, said Zinke’s order “represents an important check on executive abuse and reverses what was a deliberate attack on Americans’ fundamental rights and privileges” by the Obama administration.

The order reverses a decision by the Obama administration to phase out use of lead ammunition and fishing tackle on wildlife refuges by 2022.

Zinke, who rode to work on a horse Thursday as a sign of solidarity with U.S. Park Police, said the hunting order and another order directing agencies to identify areas where recreation and fishing can be expanded were intended to boost outdoor recreation in all its forms.

“Outdoor recreation is about both our heritage and our economy,” he said in a statement. “Between hunting, fishing, motorized recreation, camping and more, the industry generates thousands of jobs and billions of dollars in economic activity.”

The first sketches of Directive 91/477 forced Simonetta Sommaruga [Swiss Federal Councelor, a socialist] to visit Brussels in mid-June, to plead for Swiss law be allowed to keep the service weapon at home. If this derogation is accepted for now, it will be accompanied by many other obligations, such as psychological and medical tests, said the Basler Zeitung in its issue of August 24.

It is supposed to demonstrate that gun owners are not a danger to society and must be supervised. [do you see the contradiction? they are safe, but must be closely watched] Therefore 133,000 people will be compelled to do that: members of shooting clubs but also hunters, collectors or those who possess weapons without being part of a society.

I'm not Swiss, but if I were, I'd pull out of all EU commitments effective immediately and concurrently restore all border checkpoints. The EU does what every "socialist" dictatorship ultimately does: take away freedoms constantly but rather gradually. The frogs in the pot won't notice the ever rising temperature, right? Well, The British did and bolted. Hopefully the rest of the EU victims will notice as well.

Why Gun Control Can’t Be Solved in the USA

On average, Democrats (that’s my team*) use guns for shooting the innocent. We call that crime.

On average, Republicans use guns for sporting purposes and self-defense.

If you don’t believe me, you can check the statistics on the Internet that don’t exist. At least I couldn’t find any that looked credible.

But we do know that race and poverty are correlated. And we know that poverty and crime are correlated. And we know that race and political affiliation are correlated. Therefore, my team (Clinton) is more likely to use guns to shoot innocent people, whereas the other team (Trump) is more likely to use guns for sporting and defense.

That’s a gross generalization. Obviously. Your town might be totally different.

So it seems to me that gun control can’t be solved because Democrats are using guns to kill each other – and want it to stop – whereas Republicans are using guns to defend against Democrats. Psychologically, those are different risk profiles. And you can’t reconcile those interests, except on the margins. For example, both sides might agree that rocket launchers are a step too far. But Democrats are unlikely to talk Republicans out of gun ownership because it comes off as “Put down your gun so I can shoot you.”

Let’s all take a deep breath and shake off the mental discomfort I just induced in half of my readers. You can quibble with my unsupported assumptions about gun use, but keep in mind that my point is about psychology and about big group averages. If Republicans think they need guns to protect against Democrats, that’s their reality. And if Democrats believe guns make the world more dangerous for themselves, that is their reality. And they can both be right. Your risk profile is different from mine.

So let’s stop acting as if there is something like “common sense” gun control to be had if we all act reasonably. That’s not an option in this case because we all have different risk profiles when it comes to guns. My gun probably makes me safer, but perhaps yours makes you less safe. You can’t reconcile those interests.

Our situation in the United States is that people with different risk profiles are voting for their self-interests as they see it. There is no compromise to be had in this situation unless you brainwash one side or the other to see their self-interest differently. And I don’t see anyone with persuasion skills trying to do that on either side.

Fear always beats reason. So as long as Democrats are mostly using guns to shoot innocent people (intentionally or accidentally) and Republicans are mostly using guns for sport or self-defense, no compromise can be had.

I'm all for gun control in the form of complete confiscation from Democrats, Greens, Independents and unregistered (non)voters, journalists except bloggers, and all politicians, bureaucrats and their body guards; and all contributors to these sources of violence. The gun shop has declared the article to be bogus and false. The "journalist" cynically used the shop and its owner to push his own activist agenda by lying about the experience.

The gun shop owner took a lot of heat for allowing a "journalist" even in the front door. But this guy is not an American originally and claims to be from "eastern Europe" (I think), and if so, he probably thought that western press is interested in facts. One statistic I have never seen: the number of killings which are done in "gun free" zones, where by definition no one can defend himself. I suspect that Europe is one big "gun free" kill zone.

I have lapsed on my concealed carry. That's a mistake. I will correct it.
