A wag at a different blog comments, "Let them have marriage, we're not using it...".
Which leads me to think, why not? Let secular marriage become available to all. As many men, women, animals, vegetables, minerals as want to be joined under the secular marriage contract: go for it.
Holy wedding is a different animal altogether. It is a sacrament, melding into an earthly trinity: a man, a woman, and a deity; it can be administered only by an agent of the deity, to subjects of the deity.
A holy wedding is not what homosexuals want. So let them have secular marriage, and write it out of the religious lexicon. Change the term "marriage" within the religious lexicon to reflect its actual meaning: a contract with a man, a woman, and their transcendent, spiritual deity.
