Rule of the Protected Class

It came very quickly to this. The reigning political class has been intent on creating protected classes, including certain races (not all) and certain sexual deviants (not all). These have been codified in the recent Hate Crimes Legislation, making dissent from members of these protected classes illegal, if it makes the protected class nervous (this is only slightly overstated).

As I watched a PBS nightly news a few nights ago, a black congresswoman declared that dissent from Obama's government takeover plans is racially inspired. She was not challenged and was not asked for evidence to back up her charge.

This charge is now echoed by Jimmy Carter, not that Carter has any influence with anyone except uberLeftists. The Ad Hominem is increasingly being used to try to shut up critics. The idea is that critics will be shamed by the accusation, hang their heads and go away.

The Left doesn't actually understand the mechanism of shame. Having no fixed principles except for "progressive" movement toward total government, the Left is without absolutes and cannot relate to "evil" as it pertains to themselves. As a consequence they also have no shame. So what they conceive as being shame is actually just name-calling. Real shame is generated personally, internally, when a person realizes that an action he has taken is contradictory to his core principles. This produces a dissonance felt as shame.

Congress has stepped into the faux-shaming business by its historical shame-dump on Congressman Joe Wilson. Congress passed an historical resolution against Wilson for shouting "liar" during Obama's lie about ObamaCare not covering illegal aliens. No such sanction has ever been invoked by Congress prior to this one. Leftists have shouted "liar" before and have not been sanctioned. But Obama is a protected class Leftist; infractions against him are somehow different. The Left feels no shame at the differential treatment of Wilson compared to their own people who have done the same thing.

A person or movement without the capacity for shame is a danger to society. The incapacity for shame is a natural result of denying absolutes such as virtuous character traits. If truthfulness, for example, is not an absolute, then deception is allowed. This is state of affairs that currently reigns in the USA.

With Obama on every Sunday morning "news" show and now on late night shows, the deception is turning into a blitz. Repeated enough, any lie becomes accepted as truth, so the Left believes.

Addendum:
The charge has been made by Rep. Hank Johnson (D-Ga) that Joe Wilson's shout, "you lie!", will encourage racists to don "white hoods and ride through the countryside." Manufacturing racism is now the coin of the realm. The charges are McCarthyist: they spread fear without a shred of evidence. According to Alinsky, if the truth doesn't work, then try something else. Hatred, especially racial hatred, always seems to work wonders. So if it doesn't exist, make it up. Evidence not required.

Addendum 2:
Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) is demanding that the media investigate the racial views of all the "birthers and teabaggers" at the teaparty demonstrations, claiming that the terms used such as "ObamaCare" are racist.
