Individual Mandate

Everyone will almost certainly have to purchase a pack of gum at some point.

But some refuse to purchase it. And when they need it, they can't be refused.

So you and I have to pay for their pack of gum. Our packs of gum cost more because of these folk who refuse to pay for their own packs of gum.

I stood in line behind a woman who didn't buy gum just today... It's unpatriotic not to buy gum. But we all know that under ObamaGum ultimately no one will have access to quality gum and we will have to scrape it off the underside of park benches or go without. Only Congressmen will have good gum.

"Shopkeeper, I'm starving! What do you have?"

"I have some gum."

"Can I buy it?"

"Sure, that'll be $200."

"What?!!! How can that be?"

"Well, you didn't prepay for it, and you have to pay for it to be made, shipped, the gas of the shipping company, the cost of my rent for stockpiling it."

>Another customer comes in and asks for some gum, being charged nothing. When the first customer looks on surprised, the shopkeeper says:

"Thank you for prepaying your gum, here, have a case."

Talmyr,
I have to admit to not understanding your analogy.
