A More Valid Disaster Warning

Actually there are two types pending: First is the EMP disaster scenario (note 1), both solar and nuclear (natural and enemy). Second is the ongoing war against individual Americans by the US Government, specifically the BLM, which could escalate into a civil war. Either of these are more dangerous than AGW. Note 1. For a fascinating and gripping fictional account, read "One Second After", written by a military historian.

Data Collection: Census of Federal Law Enforcement Officers
http://www.bjs.gov/index.cfm?ty=dcdetail&iid=250

The 2008 Census covered 73 agencies. The officer counts include supervisory and nonsupervisory personnel with federal arrest authority who were also authorized (but not necessarily required) to carry firearms while on duty. They exclude officers in the U.S. Armed Forces (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and Coast Guard). Because of classified information restrictions, the CIA and the Transportation Security Administration's Federal Air Marshals are also excluded. Data were collected by email, fax, and mail.

In September 2008, federal agencies employed approximately 120,000 full-time law enforcement officers who were authorized to make arrests and carry firearms in the United States. . . . The 2008 FLEO census collected data from 73 agencies, including 33 offices of inspectors general.
The Bureau of Land Management has 255 armed officers with arrest powers [as of 2008]. (See Table 1.)

Law Enforcement

. . . The BLM fields a force of approximately 200 Law Enforcement Rangers (uniformed officers) and 70 Special Agents (criminal investigators) who enforce a wide range of laws and regulations in the prevention, detection, and investigation of crimes affecting public lands resources.

I suggest that if the BLM wants to "go to war," they would be well advised to better prepare with more than 250 armed officers.

Leaving aside the ongoing Bundy vs BLM "war," the US government DOES have the necessary military might to snuff out any armed resistance by the citizenry. For those who live in a cocoon, the only thing currently missing is the political will to power to use that military might against the American citizenry, which will NOT go gentle into that "good night."

Dylan Thomas:

Do not go gentle into that good night, Old age should burn and rave at close of day; Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Though wise men at their end know dark is right, Because their words had forked no lightning they Do not go gentle into that good night.

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay, Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight, And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way, Do not go gentle into that good night.

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay, Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

And you, my father, there on the sad height, Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray. Do not go gentle into that good night. Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
