Lefty Lets It Slip

“Our rights do not come from God, your honor, and you know that. They come from man... That’s your faith, that’s my faith, but that’s not our country. Our laws come from collective agreement and compromise.”
CNN Anchor Chris Cuomo
And that certainly is the Leftist hope for the future... their future, where they control the "positive rights" which are those that are allowed by government. That's the type of "rights" that Obama said he believes in, and it is purely totalitarian. It's exactly what the founders formed a revolution to remove.

"We hold these truths to be self-evident. That we are endowed BY OUR CREATOR with inalienable rights."

The Fathers knew what this guy doesn't: investing the state with the right to determine rights is the surest path to tyranny.

"Human law must rest its authority ultimately upon the authority of that law which is divine. . . . Far from being rivals or enemies, religion and law are twin sisters, friends, and mutual assistants. Indeed, these two sciences run into each other." (James Wilson)

"Religion and morality are the essential pillars of civil society." (George Washington)

"Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other." (John Adams)

"[T]he Christian religion, in its purity, is the basis, or rather the source of all genuine freedom in government. . . . and I am persuaded that no civil government of a republican form can exist and be durable in which the principles of that religion have not a controlling influence." (Noah Webster)

Stefani,
Thanks for those quotes. A few weeks back I tried to find that quote by Adams... but I misremembered the source and wording and couldn't locate it. (Jefferson did not say it.

Adams is exactly correct. If the moral underpinnings of the nation becomes either Atheist inversion of logic on the one hand, or the Sharia of tyrannical, irrational Islam on the other hand, then the nation has lost its freedoms and the constitution is meaningless (it is nearly meaningless under Democrat control of the administration and its agents, anyway).

Russia, China, Cuba, Venezuela all have elections; those are without meaning in determining the liberties of the voters.

I pulled the quotes from a list that's been republished around the net, but apparently originally sources from Chuck Colson's site: http://www.tothesource.org/6_15_2005/6_15_2005.htm
