Steven, recently I had a little verbal kerfuffle with someone who took issue with the poisoned candy metaphor. They said it was a stupid metaphor, and if it meant saving just one life, they would gorge on the candy and die knowing they did something great for humanity. I listened intently and said, "when are they moving in?" As you can imagine, this person, who says he would die for these refugees had no intention of adopting them into his home, and ended the conversation stringing some expletives together and attempting to insult my intelligence.
Yeah, they always talk that way when they are on the internet. Some of them are so damned dumb, they talk that way in person. But you never see them around when it comes time to go for a walk through the part of town where the 'refugees' have settled and are now hanging out on the street corners, looking for some straight white sap to harrass....
No, you can always count on them for that string of expletives as they hurry out the door, shooting for the last word. We have a clown like that where I work. I seriously think he's mentally disturbed. He gets almost violently angry when someone won't let him be the smartest guy in the room...
