A New Atheist Gets Spanked?

I don't put much weight on debates. While they are certainly forums for issues, they actually seem more about a personality than about his thought; thought is better contained in the atmosphere of a considered, controlled writing. A debate is a performance, and has to be judged on that basis - it seems to me.

But a good many folks go to debates, and love to do a post-debate debate themselves. In this case, even the audience Atheists seem to have been voting against the performance of Christopher Hitchens, who was debating philosopher William Lane Craig.

The "New Atheists" are resorting more and more to blusterous ridicule and ad Hominems; they have a theory now that those are the tactics that work. Logic has never been on their side nor is it their forte'. They are, after all, philosophical Materialists who eliminate the possibility of a deity by defining a truncated reality that excludes that possibility. But of course just making up a definition does not make it so.

While I don't follow debates or put much value on them as intellectual contributions, I do think I might buy the video of this particuar debate just for the entertainment value.

Hi Stan,

Perhaps you want to read Antony Flew's brief review of Dawkins's The God Delusion:

http://www.bringyou.to/apologetics/DawkinsGodDelusionFlewReview.pdf

He calls Dawkins a "secularist bigot"

Lol.
