That's Rich, David...
The concept of nations competing is so anathema to Brooks that he relates it to everything moral ("evil" of course) about Trump, right down to the "savagery" of the personal relationships inside the ranks of Trump's team in the White House. Brooks concludes that there is no morality inherent in Trump or his team. None.
That's Brooks for you, and Leftism in general. When attacking the Other, conceal your own team's total non-morality and blatant savagery by claiming to be more moral than the enemy.
WikiLeaks has demonstrated the moral position of the Left, as it exists inside the Leftist Cathedral. There is no tactic which is immoral except the tactic which is not tried (Alinsky). Thus it is immoral to fail, as Hillary proves every time she shows up with new villains in her "defeat by conspiracy-theory du jour". If she accepted her responsibility for her own failure, she would have to admit to not having addressed certain tactics (e.g. Wisconsin), and thereby being personally immoral by her own standardless standards.
When it becomes too clear that the Left has no morality, none, they immediately attack the Other by screeching the same claim about the Other. then top it off with exaggerations: The Left is too moral. Yes, that's it, too moral. They can't tolerate the INTOLERANT, RACIST, SEXIST, HOMOPHOBIC, DENYING MEN ACCESS TO THE GIRLS' RESTROOMS/LOCKERS/SHOWERS/SPORTS. And that's where facts no longer apply to moral claims. Because Lies Work Best, for the Left. The "moral" principle is just this: choose accusations which work in your favor as you compete for power.
