Sanctions Against Iran Remarks Announcing U.S. Actions.Remember when FDR incarcerated an entire race of Americans in Japanese interment-camps? If you're a millenial, maybe not. History is not a subject valued in gov't schools.

"Fourth, the Secretary of Treasury [State] and the Attorney General will invalidate all visas issued to Iranian citizens for future entry into the United States, effective today. We will not reissue visas, nor will we issue new visas, except for compelling and proven humanitarian reasons or where the national interest of our own country requires. This directive will be interpreted very strictly. "
Both FDR and Carter were "Progressive" Democrats. Nowadays the progressive Democrats get all puffed up at the thought of keeping potential danger away from American citizens.
And BTW, the process is deemed legal and constitutional by at least one reputable source:
Is an immigration ban on Muslims unconstitutional? The Left's religious tolerance Narrative ruse is risable on its face. John Kerry won't even recognize the Islamic genocide of Christians which is taking place in the Middle East (<< Read the whole thing at the source).
"Probably not. The Supreme Court has held consistently, for more than a century, that constitutional protections that normally benefit Americans and people on American territory do not apply when Congress decides who to admit and who to exclude as immigrants or other entrants. This is called the plenary power doctrine. The Court has repeatedly turned away challenges to immigration statutes and executive actions on grounds that they discriminate on the basis of race, national origin, and political belief, and that they deprive foreign nationals of due process protections. While the Court has not ruled on religious discrimination, it has also never given the slightest indication that religion would be exempt from the general rule.
